trifecta!

I was reading a zombie novel online when spook pointed out that there were sharks on tv. During the commercials I got to go back to my novel about the plague in 1348. It's my geek heaven.

happy birthday, dear Paulie

...so our night concluded at the bar when Paul opened my umbrella and knocked Adam's drink into his lap. Adam, being the calm and reasonable man he is, calmly and reasonably picked up Paul's drink and dumped it on Paul, along with a random glass of water. And Lara's coke. And my unnamed fruity concoction.
"Hey, I was drinking that!" I complained. I shouldn't have--he was doing me a favour. I did not need to drink any more. Neither did any of us, really, and since at that point there was nothing left to drink unless I wanted to wrestle Peter's glass out of his hand, we went home like sensible kids, although not before Paul tried to dump the remnants of something else on Adam in retaliation and accidentally threw his glass across the table to shatter on the patio.

Dude, it was fun.

photo finish

For all of those who bet in the notorious "who'll cry first?" poll of July 15, 2006, the consensus seems to be that it was me. Too bad we didn't include a category for "who'll cry most"--I'd be a shoo-in.

Adam and Michelle's wedding was awesome, literally, and I feel honoured to have been part of it. I also feel a little hungover, but the music on their program/souvenir cd is chasing that away. Let the sun shine in, indeed.

when dinosaurs roamed the earth

An actual conversation with one of our new part-timers:

"I'm putting together a list on MSN of bookstore people. Then when I go to university you can all tell me what to read. Are you on it?"
"No, tragically I am not on MSN."
"Oh." pause "You seem like one of those older people who might not be on it."

I feel a little mean about how hard this makes me laugh, but not that mean. I don't mind being one of those older people--in fact at moments like this I am grateful for it. I'm just amused that she had no idea she was saying something that might be, y'know, socially bizarre.

I thought I would post a couple of spook's impressionistic photos of our painting spree. ("See that wall? Wanna paint that wall?") That gray colour is almost all buried under several shades of cream and sand now. We're thinking of it as a primer coat.

Wait for the saga of picking an actual colour.
